Steps in Producing a Documentary
Read the handout "Steps in Producing a Documentary" and comment on the following question: How is our class project similar/different from the steps outlined in the handout? What resources do we have/not have that the handout covers?
Our documentary is pretty similar to the steps that are outlined in the handout. We have a concept - the convent. We don't really have a treatment yet, but I'm sure we will end up having one. I think that we don't really have to deal with a budget because we're using resources that we already have. Another thing we won't be using actors per say. Scheduling is a big must for a documentary because we need to know what needs to be done and how quick it has to be - so that's another thing that will be done. We have a crew - our class. There are many other aspects that are really similar to our own documentary like: film/video, equiptment and supplies, filming and recording, film processing and sound transfer. So to wrap it up, the steps that are explained in the handout are really similar to the documentary that we will be doing about the convent.
The way we will be producing our documentary is different than the procedure outlined in the handout. For example, the handout mentions a "budget" which really isn't much of a concern for us considering it's a student production and we will be filming on our own campus. Also, we'll be using digital cameras to film. We won't be using video tapes or film or any other technology listed in the outline. However, we will be following the outline in the sense that we will need to name a production crew: directors, editors, filmers, etc.
Our class project may be similar to the steps in the handout, but there are big differences all in all, for one, we do not need a budget for this project and we don't need a script either, so therefore we wouldn't need actors. Other than that we are quite similar. We have everything that the handout asks for, I believe. Except for a lab possibly, but I doubt that we would even need that.
Our class project is similar because we have a location and we are focusing on planning how we are going to put it all together. We also have a camera that is available to film and we have the mac to help us edit our recordings. However, we do not need actors and a script and we dont need to worry about a budget because we have all our equipment with us in school. Also our location is being approved to film without us having to pay an expense.
We dont have an official laboratory but the computer room will suffice. We have a crew, camera, computer and other necessary equipment that will allow us to make a great documentary.
Our project is somewhat similar to what the handout advises us to do. Our documentary won't necessarily be as "legit" as the handout assumes it will be. It is a student production so therefore we do not have a budget and a cast. We already have the equipment needed, such as the cameras, tripod, voice recorder, etc., and we are shooting on our school campus. We have all our resources here with us and we are our own production crew.
I am very excited to see all of this come together and all our hard pay off. Hopefully it can turn out to be as legit as the handout describes.
Our project is similar in a lot of ways. Scheduling is very important in order to get our project done on time. The production steps are what we need in order for our project to be a success. Although this is not a long documentary, the aspects of production are still very important. For example, the sound transfer because it can help block out background noises. Post production definitely applies and will be the important final touches to our project. However, there are still some differences in neccessity for our documentary and the steps advised. I feel that a lab is unneccessary and since we do not have one we will have to do without it. Thankfully, we do not have to worry about a budget or scouting or casting. I can already tell this project is going to be amazing!
Our project will be similar to the handout in some ways. Although, our project won't be as official, it's good to make it appear as it is. For example, our documentary will be about the convent so we would still need the necessary things which include having camera, scripts, etc. However, we won't have to worry about the budget because we our only working with what we have. We may need a script only for the interviews about the convent. It's good to have questions prepared to ask the person before hand. Also we do need to go scouting to see which areas of the convent are good for filming. This is a huge factor because the amount of light in a room can easily mess up the video. The only thing we may need to worry about is editing because we don't have the best editing tools, but we can work around it.
Our project is pretty much similar to the one described in the handout. It is similar in that we must have a location, and be aware of the lighting around us. We must also take into consideration how the editing will take place and what will fit best into the documentary. However, in the handout, it mentions something about budgeting and elaborate equipment, which we don't have much of. Overall, though, the handout is very similar to our project.
We are somewhat different than the handout. We have our location, equipment, and our crew. We just don't really need to have a script, just have the research ready for us to present. We also won't really need a budget because we basically have everything that we need. We would have to make the proper arrangements, but the handout is similar to what we will be doing.
Our project is similar from the handout in terms that we are prepared with our memebers in crew, we have one location chosen. The script isn't necessary because we will be interviewing others on their own personal experiences, which is the only real difference. It's also different because we don't have a budget because we're not paying for anything.
