Read the handout distributed on tuesday. Think about both video projects we'll be tackling in the 4th quarter (your personal video and the class convent documentary.) In the comments below, do the following:
1) Outline a tentative plan for filming, editing your own (time allotment, budget, casting)
2) What are some potential problems the class could run into filming the convent documentary?
For the documentary, I will set aside one day for interviewing and one day for filming the location of the convent and getting photos of the environment. I'd make sure that I tell my cast to be on time, so as to stay on budget and cause as little inconvenience to those around me as possible. After I have made sure that I have all the footage that I need, I will begin editing. For the filming of my personal video, I will make sure to warn my cast about one or two weeks in advance of the day we will be filming to ensure that we stay ahead of time and on schedule. I will be sure to film in as little time as possible and try taking some pictures to incorporate into my film and keep my audience interested. Lastly, comes the editing. For this important task, I will make sure that I have a substitute editor in case the other is sick. This way, we will have finished the video in the shortest time possible.
ReplyDeleteSome problems the class may encounter while filming the video and documentary are: failure of the equipment, poor lighting, bad location, lack of time, scheduling and a back up plan(due to bad weather), and poor editing.
For the future projects, I will make sure that the group that I am assigned to get along well. We can all be assigned something different, which will be good organization. We can each take a different job. For example, I can take pictures. We will set a budget and make sure we do not go over it. We can also make a due date so that we can get the convent project done for a certain time. I will do just about the same thing for the personal video. If I were to do a music video, I would pick out the songs to use, set different dates to shoot the video and again, make a due date for myself and a budget. The editing for both projects will have to be done by the whole group. The class may run into problems with flexible scheduling, time budgeting, and editing.
ReplyDeleteFor the projects, I feel that separation of responsibility is very important. Every individual should have their own thing to focus on yet be there in case any help is needed. I feel there should be more than one deadline- the deadline within the group so we have time to edit videos and/or fix errors, and the actual deadline which is assigned. Assuming we need more time than necessary is always best because it does leave room for error or technical issues. The class may run into technical issues which happens a lot with our computer; bad weather (since we are in April [showers]); and poor lighting because the convent is kind of dark depending on the time of day.
ReplyDeleteFor my personal video project, the first thing I have to do is brainstorm the main idea of the video. What exactly is it going to be about? I would bullet list a few scenes that I can picture in my mind that I would like to put into said video. The next thing is to find out who will be in my video. I need a cast that is easy to reach and available whenever I need them. I would then find out where this would be taped. Once I can get the vision of what the whole video will look like, I will gather all my equipment and begin shooting. As for editing it, I usually have the vision in my mind of how the finished product will look like, but sometimes while editing, I get new ideas and incorporate it into the production. After, I would watch it over and over to see that it is perfect.
ReplyDeleteSome potential problems that the class can run into while filming the documentary would probably be time and availability. We need a lot of time for this documentary to be exactly what we want it to be. Availability ties in with it also because in the time we have day to day, we are not always available. We have other classes to focus on and we don't have the whole day to work on it. We have first period, some of lunch, for seniors 8th period, and after school. It's a long and difficult process, but I'm sure we will be able to accomplish this mission ;D
For my project, I would first decide what it would be about. Once that is figured out, I would then start scheduling what it first. If I have interviews I would make it so that the interviewee and I both are comfortable with the time. Then I would start filming the things that I need to film. I would give myself time to film and edit all that is needed. I'll pace myself so that everything isn't left for the last minute.
ReplyDeleteI think the biggest problem for the convent project will be time. We only have class time then lunch (which not all of us have at the same time) and seniors have 8th period. However, class time isn't enough for a project like this and not everyone is available after school. Some people have jobs or important after school activities. This will be the biggest potential problem. Everything else we can overcome it.
For the personal project, I need to first agree on what type of video my group will be doing. There needs to be a schedule set so the group members and people featured in the video will be available, and to reduce disturbance of the environment when we film. There should be separate jobs for each member of the group to increase productivity such as main footage, sound, editing, and still shots.
ReplyDeleteThere are many things that can go wrong when the time comes to film the documentary. The weather may be awful, people may be absent, and equipment can run haywire. While technology cannot always be reliable, most problems can be solved with patience, time, and proper scheduling.
For the personal project, first I need to figure out what the video is going to be about. Before choosing what the topic will be I can make a bullet list of possible choices and do a process of elimination to chose which topic would be the best decision. If interviewing is involved in my topic for the project its important that I ask in advance the permission of the people that I want to interview. If these people are willing to be interviewed then I must put together a schedule in which to meet with those people. Once this is complete the project can be shot. I will try to finish all the necessary filming at least a week in advance so that way there is plenty of time to make the final touches and make the video the best to its potential.
ReplyDeleteThe convent project is a great opportunity for us to be working on as a media class. It’s a great way for us to team up with other people in the class and put together our ideas into making the best video possible. Even though this video is a good opportunity for us to work on there are some problems that the class will most likely face. Possible problems include weather, time management, and technology issues. Due to the fact that most of the video shooting will be taken out doors and it is now spring season there may be times when the weather may be inclement and shooting may not be able to take place. As for time management, it may be difficult to get stuff done because as upper class students there are a lot of classes that we have to concentrate on other than media. Also, sometimes people get sick and this can be difficult if that person was a major part of a project. As for technology, sometimes the computers don’t like to participate and unfortunately this is not something that we can fix.
For my personal group project I will make sure that we all have certain jobs to do and a schedule to run by. Also we will make sure we have the all the people that are going to be in our video. We wont have any budget problems because we have a camera and computers at home.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, while filming the convent we might run into trouble if our equipment fails and we might not be able to finish the project within the time period that we predict we will because we only meet for 45 minutes each day and its a lot of work. However, i think the project should go smoothly and we will be able to complete it without many troubles.
For my own project, it would be important to be able to know that I will be able to rely on my members. Then we would discuss how our own ideas can be incorporated into one unique project, and this will need cooperation, time, patience, and definitely responsibility. Based on what I would like to have as a final product, I would think about the factors that go into creating the final product such as specific responsibilities for each individual, scheduling with people that may need to be interviewed, shooting film, and as well as editing. Budgets will have to be controlled based on what type of a project it is that we are working on.
ReplyDeleteFirst and foremost, schedule conflicts among people are one of the most common problems we may face as we progress for the convent documentary. I think the teamwork is the best advantage because teamwork can lead to great progress and a great piece of work.
For my personal project it would be very important for me to actually figure out what topic to focus on. After a very long time of thinking about my topic, it would be easier for me to figure out what to do. Then I would need to figure out where I am going to film the video. The location is important because it's the foundation of the video. You do not want to film on a very busy location or time of the day. Then I would need to find people who are willing(camera friendly) to volunteer their time to my film. I believe once I have these two aspects the rest should run smoothly. However, for now my main focus is to finally reach a final decision on my topic.
ReplyDeleteI believe that for every project we will encounter problems, but that is what makes the video better. Some problems we might face is time management, location, and editing. Time management is huge because we are running on a tight schedule for 40 minutes or less. However, we do have an advantage of having a lot of people work on the project. Another problem we might face is the location because of the weather. If we want to film something on a certain day and it's raining it might interfere with the set schedule. FInally, we might face some problems with the editing because we need to have so much information in a short period of time. So it would be hard to distinguish what is necessary and what is not necessary.
I think my main concern with doing my own personal project would be time management. While I'm not entirely sure what I'm doing for my project, I do know that time always seems to be an issue for me. Casting is also another concern - I want to be able to include a lot of people, but it's always hard to work around people's schedules when doing an involved project like this.
ReplyDeleteFor the convent project, I think it's going to be difficult to create something that involves every member of the class. While it's not impossible, it may be more difficult because everyone is working around a different schedule and a different deadline.
I think a main problem and concern will be time management. For my personal project, I would brainstorm and figure out what the main topic of my video is going to be about. I would figure out the people that are going to be in the video and just figure out how the whole project will come out.
ReplyDeleteMy main problem with my own personal project would have to be my time managment because I often need a schedule to remind me to do things, but often times I forget my schedule. Also, being able to know if I could rely on memebers or not would be very concerning to me.
ReplyDeleteThe convent project will run into many problems because of the amount of people working on it. Many peoples creative ideas may clash. Causing the project to be very cluttered.
My main concerns with the personal 4th quarter project would be getting everyone's schedule down so we can shoot our video promptly. Everyone has something different to do on different days, so we have to keep tract of that. In terms of the convent project, we'd have to be organized. A lot of people will want to do the same thing, but there has to be balance and not everyone is going to get the part they wanted. However, they have to do their part to their best ability.
