Self-assess

By now many of you have had the opportunity to work on different projects for class, but might be unfamiliar with other facets, especially involving filming and editing.  Check the Media Arts and Applications class folder on the shared drive for a document called "Media Arts and Applications Skills checklist."  Please use this checklist and respond in the comments on the following:

What skills do you feel you have developed?
What do you need to work on?
What are three different projects you can take on to meet these remaining goals? (Use the MSG Varsity calendar, the school calendar, or the yearbook website to help plan this.  Be specific, I want to make sure we're all working on these 3 strands of the Media class.)

  1. Throughout the course of the year, I think I have become more organized and have become more used to working in a timely manner. The fact that I have deadlines to meet keeps me organized and responsible. I think that I still need to work on film editing because I am still in the process of learning. I also haven't used the publisher as much. In order to work on this, I would like to work more on the newspaper, the yearbook website, and work a little more on film editing with MSG Varsity.

  2. I feel that I have developed the skills of locating a specific page, placing an manipulating picture boxes, and using proper settings on the camera for different events. I really need to work on creating pages like for the yearbook, editing videos, and uploading the photos. Projects I can take on are helping out with newspaper, learning more about editing videos, such as for MSG varsity, and to work more on the yearbook pages.

  4. I feel like I have improved photography skills working on the sports section for the yearbook. I would like to work more on interviewing and filming and editing for MSG Varsity. I haven't had the chance to work on anything for MSG Varsity in terms of like filming and editing. I want to maybe try filming and editing basketball games or the Christmas show coming. Also interviewing performers for open mic.

  5. Through working on the Faculty section of the Yearbook, I've definitely improved in my time management and photo editing skills. I've also realized the importance of proper photo-taking (high definition, landscape vs. portrait etc.) and photo placement (the bull's eye effect, etc.) which has helped me make my section of the Yearbook as clean-cut and precise as possible. Working on the AMSU Newspaper has also helped me realize the importance of being concise and getting your point across in as few words as possible.

I am excited to work on MSG Varsity projects, since I love using FinalCut Pro and editing videos, and I hope to be able to work more on the structure of the various Newspaper articles within the AMSU paper.

  7. I feel that since Media Arts class has begun I have dealt with a lot of aspects that go into the class. When we were given the chance to practice with yearbook avenue i was able to succesfully accomplish all the goals in the checkslist. I also worked on a MSG Varsity project(photo gallery) & submitted a article for the newspaper that was recently published. I need to work on how to set up a trpod camera for MSG varsity & working on publisher. Using the MSG varsity tripod i can videotape the Christmas show coming up & by working on publisher I can make another newspaper article.

  8. Since Nicole and I are co-editors of the Newspaper and we have to edit and revise and play around with how were going to set up the articles i have gotten a lot better and more comfortable with editing. I think I need to work more on being involved with the MSG Varsity section because out of the checklist i only know how to set up the tripod and camera. I also dont really know how to make use of the “bull’s eye” effect with composition and use proper settings on the camera for different events. I think i can work on uploading a photo gallary for the MSG Varsity section and I can probably work on the Yearbook sections by designing a page with some pictures of the current events happening in school this month.

  10. I have a high proficiency in a majority of the skills on the checklist -- except the ones regarding working with Microsoft Publisher.

I could probably help with working on the next issue of the newspaper, however, it might be a difficult task to do due to the fact that there's a lot of yearbook things for Chris and I to handle.

I feel that I learned and developed a lot of new skills from this class. I developed the skill of using Publisher to create a new format for the new school newspaper. Using Publisher allowed me to develop a more creative thinking of what the newspaper should look like. I also feel I developed more leadership skills by being the Co-editor of the newspaper.
I feel I need to work on keeping up with the deadline of the newspaper, meaning putting it all together and finishing it on time like before the quarter ends. The first issue is really late, but I need to try to make this one on time. I also need to work on more editing in the MSGV club. I would love to learn more ways I can make a video more fun and creative.
3 different projects that could help me take on these goals are:
    1. meet the deadline of finishing the newspaper a little before the quarter is over.
    2. continue editing different videos for MSG
    3. actually attend the MSGV meetings..

  12. I feel that in this Media and Arts class, that I have developed many skills, including the correct uses of photos, captions, and page layouts. I feel that I need to work on learning on how to manipulate photos and text boxes. I can take on different projects such as photo gallerys for MSG or page layouts for yearbook, even designing pages for the newspaper for.

  13. I feel like I have developed useful skills in using a camara, how to take and display pictures, hw to take care of a camara, how to upload pictures into a computer and form photo galleries, etc.

I think I need to work on the angles I take foe some pictures. I think I need to practice on that.

Three projects I think would help me in this would be taking pictures for Pep Rally, the Christmas Concert, and the Spring Musical in March. However, I am open to take photos for any other events for school.

  14. I've worked with Jostens Yearbook long enough to figure out how to do everything in the checklist; but I've only played around with MS Publisher a few times at the beginning of the year, so I only know a few basics such as placing images/texts/etc.

I definitely have not worked exclusively on anything MSG Varsity-related, except when handling a camera and tripod and uploading pictures to the shared drive for Ring Day. I haven't touched the Mac, so I haven't played around with Final Cut Express.

  15. I have developed many skills within this class. I now know how to upload images; file images; locate a specific page; create a text box; change fonts; place and manipulate picture boxes; use proper settings on the camera for different events. I have yet to make use of “bull’s eye” effect with composition. I have to recap on the publisher skills because at this moment I can barely remember how to find the website! I also have not practiced skills for MSG Varsity, so I can only upload photos and set up a tripod and camera from previous experiences.
My skills in the yearbook will continue to prosper as I keep working on the Club Section in the yearbook. Once I finish my yearbook article, I will be able to work on my Newspaper- Publisher skills. I will practice uploading pictures, changing text boxes, etc. in order to fully complete my assignment. I will practice MSG Varsity skills during my completion of the MSG Varsity project we got to choose. I hope to be able to complete all assignments using my growing skills.

  16. I have been working with all three sections in Media Arts and Applications; MSG Varsity, Yearbook and Newspaper. I am currently working on an article for the newspaper on College Acceptances within the senior class. I just recently uploaded a photo gallery to MSG Varsity with Kaylynn and Carriel. I also teamed up with Victoria to do the dividers for the yearbook. I have learned a lot from the girls in the class. I've learned how to work with other programs such as publisher and Macs.

In media arts I developed skills on how to design the yearbook and edit photos. I still need to work on cropping pictures and fixing the layout. I would like to work on the photo gallery for msg varsity to edit photos and I would also to like work on the newspaper again. However i would like to know more about what is going on in MSG varsity such as uploading videos or doing interviews.

  20. I feel that my organizational skills have improved. While being the photo editor, I have put photos in their specific places. I have also improved on my writing skills on writing an article for the newspaper. I would be interested in photo editing, video editing, and continuing to write articles.
